What comes to mind when you think of meditation? The first image that pops into my head is someone sitting cross-legged, eyes closed, palms facing up on their knees. The next word that comes to my mind is, hard. Because I tend to think meditation takes work. But I don't think "work" is what God had ...

Consistent Bible Study
When I was a young girl and young in my faith, my mom explained the difference between quiet times and Bible study. We need both to grow spiritually strong. The primary purpose of devotional time is to keep us connected to God. But consistent Bible study causes our roots to grow deep. It takes more time, but so does developing quality relationships.
In Bible study we ask questions and search for understanding. As the Holy Spirit illumines truth to our hearts and minds, we deepen our insight of who God is and who we are in relation to Him. Often, we discover areas where we need to change the ways we think, feel, and act. This is the process of becoming more like Christ. The goal of every encounter with God’s Word is life change. A big part of that happens in consistent Bible study. These posts will challenge you to take in nourishment from the rich soil of God’s Word.
3 Reasons to Give Thanks for Specific Things
Recently I asked a group to give thanks for specific things. Each took a turn sharing. Except for one, who commented, “Shouldn’t we be thankful all year round? If I state that I’m thankful for one specific thing, it takes away the value of how thankful I am about other things.”

3 Ways God’s Word Cleanses Us
Some mornings when I am having my quiet time, I think it’s going to be a gentle, quiet time of reading and prayer. Sometimes I even think it might be somewhat benign. (I know, sounds awful, doesn’t it!) But then I read a verse—and ZING! God shows me something in my life that needs attention. I have ...
