Charles Spurgeon said, “Prayer bends the omnipotence of heaven to your desire. Prayer moves the hand that moves the world.” I want my prayers to move God’s hand! I want to pray effectively! Especially for my children. As moms, we get to be part of God’s work in their lives through our ...

Praying with Purpose
Praying with purpose is simply talking with (and listening to) God. It’s one way we communicate with Him. God speaks to us primarily through His Word (the Bible). But He also speaks to us through the Holy Spirit as we pray. Prayer is more than a conversation! It’s one way that we get to participate in God’s work in our world.
While reading our Bibles, the Holy Spirit may reveal something in our lives that requires change. We pause to talk to God about it, yielding our will to His.
We might begin praying for a family member who is studying for final exams. But God knows they need strength to withstand temptation. So the Holy Spirit prompts us to pray in that realm.
Maybe a sister is struggling at her place of employment. You pray for her to have peace amid the turmoil there. Then the Holy Spirit prompts you to pray that she would be a light in the darkness.
This is praying with purpose, and these posts will encourage you to expand your prayer life and its effectiveness.
But Are You Walking In Active Faith?
One year when my kids were in high school, their football team played its local rival in our "Hometown Throwdown." As usual, it was a nail-biter of a game. They were ahead for a long time. Then we caught up. Then they were ahead, then we caught up. The final score was determined in the last 2-3 ...

Craving the Quiet
Quiet. In a world of crazy, that's what I crave.
This week I had some friends over to work on Homecoming mums. (Yes, it's that time in Texas!) We got to talking about music, and one friend (who is on our church's worship team) told me she loves to drive in silence. One of her kids asked why she ...

Did You Remember to Pray for Yourself?
Do you pray for yourself? I mean seriously--pray ... for ... yourself. Think about all the people you pray for and the intensity with which you pray for them. Do you pray for yourself in the same way?
In my quiet time a couple of weeks ago, I read through Psalm 90 in the New Living Translation. ...

15 Brief, Yet Powerful Prayers for Persecuted Believers
A little over a year ago I wrote a post about prayers for persecuted believers. It wasn't I wanted to do. Honestly, I wanted to stay as far away from it as possible. But as usual, God changed my heart and my mind. You can read about it here. God used something as simple as writing my signature to ...

Pray WITHOUT Ceasing
"Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus," (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
I'm just about ready to move off of the "grumbling" topic for write31days and move on to others. But since I mentioned this verse in Day 1, it seems ...

Prayer and Trials–Quote from Octavius Winslow
From the depths of despair, O Lord, I call for your help. Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. (Psalm 130:1-2)
I read this quote on prayer during my quiet time this morning, and I wanted to share it with you. In her book, Passionate Prayer, Catherine Martin quotes Octavius Winslow ... ...

Lord, Change My Mind
I love my mom. I love her relationship with the Lord. I was going through some old notes and found one she wrote to me a few years ago when I was going through a difficult time. It is especially meaningful now. I'm posting it here.
I love Proverbs 16: 1-3 in the Amplified. The rendering is so ...
